So far we have talked about the power of observation and the power of assessment and now the next step we will discuss is the test stage. What I am talking about when i say the test stage is that we have to try and prove our theories or our ideas about observation. What good does it do to observe and assess, if we do not try and get the real answers. We want to keep our minds sharp and in order to do this we need to get information.
This lesson is short but the real task is taxing. The real task is out of the ordinary and requires hard honest work. When it comes to the test stage we need to be as diligent as possible as we will not always be able to get our answers. Some people we will never interview or get the information we desire. This exercise is not for the weak at heart or the timid. It takes someone with strong character to do this well.
If you remember from the previous post we observed our subjects and then we tried to figure out what was going on and we almost gave our opinion or an answer to what we thought. Now what we will do is try and gather hard evidence to put our theories to the test. Remember the shy girl? We are gonna try and speak with her. We want to see if our theory holds. The trick is when you do this interviewing that you don't act creepy. You also want to have craft with this process sort of like Columbo or Matlock. People get creeped out if they think you were watching them intensely. You will not be able to seek answers from everyone so make everyone you do as quality as possible.
Now you may ask do I really do this on a regular basis and the answer is yes. I do this as much as possible, everyday, 7 days a week. I will do this until the day I die because the skill is priceless. Your next question might be don't you find this exhausting? The answer is when I first started doing it, it was very exhausting but as I have gotten better and better it has become second nature. It is not different than eating and sleeping to me. I just have made it a part of my daily routine.
Do you remember when you were a child and someone would tell you no? What did you want to do? You wanted to disobey and do it any way. You were testing and pushing all the time and then what happened? You grew up and you gave up this behavior. What you should have done was kept it and used it in a different manner. The power of testing is huge. Aristotle didn't believe in testing his theories, thus he never gained confirmation if he was right. Galileo on the other hand came along 200 years later and learned that theories without test are just that, theories. Make sure you are the right scientist.
We are on our way to becoming a better you. This process I am teaching you is what i use to teach sales people how to accomplish increased sales. All to often sales people go into a perspective clients office, home, etc without ever doing any of these processes and then cannot figure out why they just can't seem to accomplish extraordinary sales. If yo are in sales and you do not follow my process then it is like a doctor who gives you a prescription without a check up. How does he know what he is prescribing will cure your ailments? Extraordinary sales are accomplished by knowing several things. One is your customer. Two is your product and three is knowing how your product or service can help your perspective customer. There are other things we need to learn but these are the most important ones.
Let's get out there and refine our process and get awesome personal growth. Who knows, in the process you may even meet a new friend. No matter what, you will be getting a better understanding to human nature and their habits.
